"Adjusted volume" is the interior volume of a sauna (i.e. Width  x  Depth  x  Height) plus an adjustment to account for "cold surfaces" in the sauna (i.e. glass, tile, stone, etc. — but not including the floor). This adjustment is typically around +20% but can be more if your sauna has lots of cold surfaces (i.e. multiple large windows).

This heater is rated for use in saunas with an adjusted volume of 318 - 636 ft³, which includes most 7-8 person saunas (based on average  sauna sizes, layouts & interior cold surfaces).
